Helping us walk alongside others who are.. Part 2

Last month’s Resource Hub gave three suggestions to help us help others in grieving, in friendship, and in exploring what the Gospel is. This week, we have three resources to help us help one another in three areas of life.

Pre-Engagement

First, “Pre-Engagement: 5 Questions to Ask Yourselves” by David Powlison helps us help one another ask good questions about dating, engagement, and marriage before we have already made decisions. This mini-book is concise and great to be talked about with others, as it even includes discussion questions.

Anxious Child

Second, “Helping Your Anxious Child: What to do When Worries Get Big” by Julie Lowe is another mini-book resource to help us help the children in our lives understand and respond to their fears, worries and concerns in light of Gospel hope. To not brush over them, settle for distraction, or revert to other band-aid measures. Instead to consider how everyday conversations, reactions and interactions can be undergirded with Gospel truths that help build a foundation of trust, faith and hope in Jesus that holds them firm in the storms.

Growing in Deeper Faith

Third, “Do You Believe” by Paul Tripp is a longer resource that could be used amongst friends, in a household, or discipleship pair. We want to help one another become wholehearted followers of Jesus, and a big part of that is knowing truth and discerning where and when we are living in the stories and lies of the world. This book has 12 key beliefs of the Christian faith, with 2 chapters on each. The first, explains the belief from the Bible, and the second chapter helps us see its implications on everyday life. It turns out that beliefs that might seem a bit ‘lofty’ actually impact our thoughts, speech, behaviours and lives each and every day!
